NRL news 2024 | Josh Addo-Carr knocked out, South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Canterbury Bulldogs, Jacob Preston knocked out

By Liam O’Loughlin and Lachlan Harper

Josh Addo-Carr is likely to miss the Bulldogs’ clash against the Roosters next week after he was knocked out in scary scenes against the Rabbitohs.

Right on the stroke of half-time, the Canterbury winger attempted to score on the sideline but copped a knock to the head from Latrell Mitchell’s hip who was covering in defence as Addo-Carr went out.

The 28-year-old laid motionless on the ground after the collision and it was only once both sides were walking off the ground that he seemed to regain consciousness.

“I think this is incidental,” referee Gerard Sutton immediately said.

NRL Immortal Andrew Johns agreed with the official on Nine’s coverage.

“All accidental, he just gets his head caught up,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s anything illegal in it.”

Addo-Carr was sent for an HIA straight away at half-time but was ruled out with category one symptoms.

“It was pretty scary to see him the way he was when it first happened,” Allana Ferguson said at half-time.

It wasn’t the only scary incident for the Bulldogs with Jacob Preston also knocked out in the second half.

The forward came in attempting to tackle Shaquai Mitchell but collided with the prop’s shoulder and was on the ground for a significant period of time.

“Big collision here,” Johns said.

Both sides came together after the incident as tensions threatened to boil over, although referee Sutton managed to control proceedings.

“There’s a bit of a push and shove now,” Billy Slater added.

Preston eventually left the field and was ruled to have category two symptoms. The forward then surprisingly returned after passing his HIA.

With 20 minutes left in the game, Shaquai Mitchell then went off for his own HIA after complaining of blurred vision, which was believed to be from the same incident.
