Cricket, under 19 men’s World Cup 2024 results, Australia beats India in final

Australian cricket has claimed another World Cup title thanks to the under 19 men’s team beating India on Monday morning (AEDT).

The Aussies dominated the final at Willowmore Park in South Africa, piling on 7-253 before bowling India out for 174 to claim the trophy.

Their victory comes barely three months after Australia won the men’s ODI World Cup, also beating India in the final.

Monday’s 79-run victory marked the third time Australia has won the under 19 men’s trophy.

Captain Hugh Weibgen won the toss and opted to bat first in the big dance.

That decision looked a little sketchy early when opener Sam Konstas was bowled for a duck, leaving Australia 1-16.

But Weibgen joined Harry Dixon at the crease and the pair put on 78 together before the next wicket fell.

They scored 48 and 42 respectively, while Harjas Singh (55) and Oliver Peake (46 not out) contributed to the impressive total.

It was then up to Australia’s bowlers to ice the match.

India also lost an early wicket to be 1-3 in the chase, and while the next partnership steadies things for a while the Aussies managed to take regular wickets and eventually bowl the opposition out for 174 in 43.5 overs.

Mahli Beardman and Raf MacMillan each claimed three wickets.

“I’m pretty emotional, it’s been amazing journey,” Konstas said.

“It was a great team effort, and credit to our coaches, they’ve been amazing.”

“I’m lost for words, really.”
