Patti Newton is paying tribute to her late husband Bert in a very personal way.
The wife of the late entertainment legend, who died in October 2021 from various health complications at age 83, revealed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show this week she had built a shrine for Bert in the family’s Melbourne home.
Bert and Patti, considered a golden couple of Australian TV, were married for almost half a century and were parents to two children, Matthew, 45, and Lauren, 42, as well as six grandchildren.

Radio host Kyle Sandilands asked Patti, 77, if it was true she had made Bert place his numerous awards – including four Gold Logies – as well as his TV memorabilia in his home office instead of having them on display all over the family home.
Patti confirmed this was true, and now his office is akin to a ‘Bert Newton museum’.
‘You should see it now. It is definitely a shrine. You walk in there and there are all of his hats in there,’ she replied.
‘I built this new room for him, which he never actually got to see, but in there I put up his Logies – but instead of 36, there are only 17 in the room, because he gave them out.
‘I don’t know who else has got his Logies, but he was a very generous man.’

Bert famously gave an AIDS patient one of his Gold Logies three decades ago in a stunning act of generosity that was not revealed until his death last year.
At the time, there was a great deal of stigma and misinformation surrounding transmission of the HIV virus, and many Australians didn’t want to be around people with AIDS.
But this didn’t bother Bert, who spent two hours visiting seriously ill patients in person in the early ’90s.
Only the late Graham Kennedy, the winner of six Gold Logies, has surpassed Bert’s haul of four.
Bert died on October 30, 2021, having suffered a long health battle which led to one of his legs being amputated.
He had been receiving palliative care at a clinic in Melbourne at the time of his death.
The TV presenter had been hospitalised in March that year, and underwent the surgery on his leg in May.
