MAFS UK’s April flees to her £750k London home to focus on therapy after dumping ‘husband’ George

Traumatised Married At First Sight UK contestant April Banbury has dumped her reality-TV husband and is living alone at her luxury London flat after her on-screen marriage went wrong, MailOnline can reveal.

The 33-year-old former Miss Great Britain has already admitted she is in therapy following her ‘traumatic’ marriage to divorced father-of-four George Roberts.

And she has suggested that she split from the 40-year-old divorced father-of-four, following allegations of his ‘abusive’, ‘obsessive’ and ‘manipulative’ behaviour by three former girlfriends.

Now MailOnline can reveal she has returned to her £750,000 apartment in south London – without ‘husband’ George.

April said she was unable to discuss the allegation of coercive behaviour made against Married At First Sight husband George Roberts when approached by MailOnline at her home on Monday.

But she appeared drained and upset by the fall-out of her failed ‘marriage’ that saw the couple tie the knot in the UK and then honeymoon in the Caribbean.

The ‘weddings’ on the show are not legally binding, but see the couples make lifelong commitments to each other at a ceremony overseen by a wedding officiant.

In an Instagram post on Sunday night April told how she had sought respite from the reality TV show by going out with male friend Jose Luis.

She wrote: ‘A night off from MAFS switched for a night of glitz and glam pageant land with my Josephina ballerina @josek9999.’

And on Friday she suggested that her young marriage to George in two picture posts on Instagram, with the caption; ‘How it started vs how it’s going’.

The first picture showed the 2020 Miss Great Britain sitting cuddled up to a very tanned George on a sofa. The second picture showed her looking away as George starred at her angrily.

Over the weekend April went into further detail about the failure of her relationship with George.

She wrote: ‘The traumas that have been brought on from this show have made me re-evaluate things.

‘I really have and I’m not ashamed to admit, I have been seeing a therapist ever since.’

A Channel 4 spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Contributor care and safety is our priority at all times throughout this production and we ensure robust contributor care and safety protocols are in place.

‘Appropriate support is available to contributors before, during and after filming and broadcast, including access to our experts and an independent psychologist.’

George has also suggested that their marriage is in tatters, by highlighting MAFS’s fans views that he should have tied the knot with another contestant.

The 40-year-old re-shared a social media post claiming that he would have had a better match with Gemma Rose.

Gemma, who has married heavily tattooed Matt Murry on the show, answered questions from her Instagram followers.

One fan wrote: ‘George or PJ would have been better suited to you’

She replied: ‘A George and PJ sandwich.’

George reposted her reply with a crying, laughing face emoji and a heart, suggesting he was in favour of the idea.

The post came after it was revealed that George was allowed to take part in the E4 show despite three of his exes complaining to the police about his alleged abusive behaviour.

Each of them said that they had independently made a complaint to the police about George, claiming to have been ‘love-bombed’ before the relationship became ‘coercive’.

All three said that they raised concerns with Channel 4 after seeing Mr Roberts in trailers for the show.

They said that they flagged his ‘abusive, ‘obsessive’ and ‘manipulative’ behaviour towards women.

A show source said that they were not aware of allegations against Mr Roberts before he married Ms Banbury on the television show.

It is not clear whether filming for the show, including their wedding, had concluded when the women raised the issue with Channel 4.

Channel 4 told MailOnline: ‘We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake.

‘Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.’
