Union represents around 55,000 postal workers across the country
Around 55,000 postal workers went on a strike Friday at 12:01 a.m. ET, according to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
The union says a strike came as a last resort following a year of bargaining with little progress.
“Canada Post had the opportunity to prevent this strike, but it has refused to negotiate real solutions to the issues postal workers face every day,” said a statement from CUPW.
“Instead, Canada Post left us no choice when it threatened to change our working conditions and leave our members exposed to layoffs.”
