Silverchair bass player Chris Joannou and wife Karissa sell family home

Chris Joannou has uprooted his family from their Newcastle abode and made a tidy sum in the process. 

The former Silverchair bass player and his wife, Karissa, have sold their family home for a whopping $1.65million. 

The 42-year-old is believed to be moving to Coffs Harbour to be closer to his wife’s family.

The couple paid $671,000 for the three bedroom home, located in Carrington, back in 2014.

Built in 1910, the home includes ornate ceilings and leadlight windows. 

Set on a spacious 508sq m, it also features gorgeous pine floors and was recently renovated.

Chris rose to fame in Australian rock band Silverchair who raced to the top of the charts in 1994. 

The band, which includes singer Daniel Johns and drummer Ben Gillies, went on a ‘definite hiatus’ in 2011.  

In recent years, Chris has turned his attention to hospitality, opening a bar and dumpling restaurant at Newcastle retail space The Edwards in 2016.

‘I haven’t played music in, gosh, I don’t know how long,’ Chris told The Daily Telegraph. 

‘I always knew that when the band did finally wind up that I would get involved in hospitality. It’s just a different kind of creative outlet,’ he added.  

Chris is also the co-founder and co-owner of the Lovells Lager beer company.
