Rachel Homan and her Ottawa-based team of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes captured gold at the women’s curling world championship on Sunday in Sydney, N.S.

Homan’s rink delivered Canada’s first curling world title since 2018 with a 7-5 win over four-time defending champion Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland at Centre 200.

Canada made a split to score three in the ninth end and the Swiss conceded in the 10th before throwing their final stone.

It was Canada’s first title at this event since Jennifer Jones won gold in 2018 in North Bay, Ont.

Homan, a four-time Scotties champion, also won the title with Miskew in 2017.

South Korea’s Gim Eun-ji beat Italy’s Stefania Constantini 6-3 earlier in the day for bronze.

More to come.
