St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga: Boy, 10, dies at disabled school after being crushed by a lift

A 10-year-old student has died after being crushed by a lift at a school for the disabled in Sydney‘s north-west.

Emergency services were called to St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga at 2pm on Wednesday over reports of a child being seriously injured on campus. 

Police officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command arrived to find the boy trapped under a lift. 

Fire and Rescue services were able to free the boy however he died at the scene. 

St Lucy’s accommodates both primary and high school students with autism, sensory impairments and mild to severe intellectual disabilities.

The student is believed to have been in a wheelchair, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The school was placed into lockdown shortly after the incident, with student’s families believed to have been notified. 

NSW Police remain on campus and have set up a crime scene while a recovery operations remains ongoing. 

A spokesperson for NSW Police said the incident is not an ongoing risk to the public or other students.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
