Kellerberrin shooting: ‘Active shooter’ in Australian town with a gunman wearing camouflage on the loose and residents ordered to stay indoors

Police have warned residents of a remote town in Western Australia‘s wheatbelt to remain indoors after a gunman allegedly shot a man at a grain silo.

The man is believed to have sustained serious gun wound in the incident at 8.40am before the alleged gunman fled the scene.

‘A man is believed to have attended a grain silo and discharged a firearm before fleeing the area in a vehicle. Officers are currently confirming the make and model of this vehicle,’ a police spokeswoman said.

‘We are asking the public to stay indoors until we can provide further advice. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible,’ WA police posted online.

The operator of the Kelleberrin Caravan Park operator told The West she ‘thought I heard gunshots about 8.50am’ as she was on her way to pick up a friend for a doctor appointment.

WA police released a photo and description of Lachlan Bowles, 25, who was last seen in the Kellerberrin area about 8.40am on Thursday morning.

Mr Bowles was believed to be driving a 2007 Grey Holden Commodore, registration 1CRB764.

Police said the man may be travelling on foot around Mission Road, in the Kellerberrin and Bencubbin areas. 

He is believed to be armed and dressed in camouflage clothing.
