Arsenal star Reiss Nelson to face trial next year for ‘dog attack’ as footballer denies his pooch Tiago ‘attacked a masseur in his north London home in December 2020’

Arsenal star Reiss Nelson’s ‘dog attack’ trial has been delayed by a year, due to legal reasons, after his dog Tiago allegedly attacked a masseur in his north London home.

The Premier League footballer arrived at Hendon Magistrates’ Court today, charged with ‘being in charge of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control’.

Nelson, 23, of Barnet, Hertfordshire, has denied the charge. He is now set to face trial on August 12, 2024 – which means it is likely to coincide with the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The footballer’s dog, which is believed to be a Cane Corso an Italian mastiff breed, allegedly attacked massage therapist Saeid Motaali on December 2, 2020, leaving him with injuries.

As the trial was abandoned while more evidence is gathered, Judge Michael Caplan KC apologised to the striker, he said: ‘I’m sorry we can’t proceed on your case this morning.’

On October 31 last year, the forward denied being in charge of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control.

The dog is said to have injured Mr Motaali’s foot.

Nelson played for Arsenal yesterday in his team’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United, coming on as a second half substitute.  He has made 35 appearances for the Premier League club in total and has scored four times.

He joined Arsenal at just nine-years-old and recently signed a four-year contract with the Gunners in July.
