When his dad Harley went to refill the bike’s fuel tank with a jerry can, a fire broke out, possibly due to the hot engine.

Tragically, Max sustained severe burns covering 90 percent of his body and passed away at 7am on Monday.

‘Max was a good little kid,’ his grandfather, Mr Knight, told The Courier Mail.

‘He lived life to the fullest, like his father. It has been a really tough day for us and we are just trying to cope with the loss.

‘The hardest thing for us as a family was to sit there beside his bed and do nothing.’

He was transported by air to the Queensland Children’s Hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 7 am the following Monday.

Harley sustained burns to approximately 40 percent of his body, specifically on his face, chest, and arms.

He was in serious condition and was promptly transported to Toowoomba Hospital for medical treatment.

Harley has since been flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Tennocy says he has been placed in a coma to stabilise his condition before surgery and doctors do not intend to wake him until Thursday and Friday.

‘The doctors have placed him in a coma and they said they won’t wake him up until maybe Thursday or Friday,’ Tennocy said.

‘He does not even know Max has passed away,’ Tennocy said.

Harley and his son loved motorbikes and were also keen fishermen.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
