Posting an open letter on Friday morning, Australian singer Nick surprised fans by revealing a close bond with Luca’s parents Maria and Michael.
Their relationship developed as a consequence of Luca’s own friendship with their late son, Arthur, and his twin brother Earl.
Nick and fashion designer wife Susie’s son Arthur died aged 15 in 2015 after taking hallucinogenic drugs and stumbling off a cliff top near his Sussex home, plummeting 60ft to the ground.
Sweet: Susie also shared this picture of Luca and Gemma’s mothers, Maria and Louise
Support: Maria even wore a stunning silver Vampire’s Wife dress during the Meet The Parents episode of the show – designed by Susie
He suffered catastrophic injuries and despite being rushed to the nearby Royal Sussex Hospital he later died.
Luca’s family were an incredible support to the Cave family following the tragedy.
His mother Maria even wore a stunning silver Vampire’s Wife dress during the Meet The Parents episode of the show.
Nick spoke about the family’s bond in his open letter in which he said Luca’s parents were a constant presence as they came to terms with the devastating loss of their son.
He wrote: ‘At the moment, the defining difference between Susie and me is that she watches Love Island, and I don’t. Susie watches Love Island because we know one of the contestants, Luca. Luca was a school friend of our twins, Arthur and Earl.
Heartfelt: Nick admitted Luca’s kindhearted parents still provide them with food and for their inexhaustible kindness he and Susie had been willing Luca to win the series of Love Island
‘As a consequence, Susie and I became friends with Luca’s parents, Maria and Michael. Maria is an antique dealer. Michael is a fishmonger. Luca is a fishmonger too.’
He added: ‘After Arthur died, in the early days of that terrible, chaotic first week, Maria turned up on our doorstep with a tray of lasagna and basically looked after us. She barely said anything to us. She made us cups of tea. She cooked for us. She was just there.
‘She was the one constant through a time of horror and confusion, when scores of despairing and commiserating people came and went. We will never forget her kindness. Even in the first week, when the world seemed suddenly and shockingly defined by an unspeakable and distorting cruelty, Maria reminded us that there was good in the world.
‘She also served as a lesson in how to deal with grieving people – you don’t need to say anything, just do something; make them a cup of tea, cook them dinner.’
Nick admitted Luca’s kindhearted parents still provide them with food and for their inexhaustible kindness he and Susie had been willing Luca to win the current series of Love Island.
He wrote: ‘To this day Michael brings fresh fish around to our house, drops it off and leaves without a word. He pretends to charge us for it, but we know that he doesn’t. These people, Luca’s parents, are as good as people get, and they love their son, Luca.
Open letter: Nick paid tribute to Luca after the fishmonger’s parents supported him following the tragic death of his teenage son
‘So, Susie watches Love Island and cheers him on, and hopes that he will win. I also hope that Luca wins, and wins soon, because then I can get the f**king TV back.’
And Luca’s dad Michael later thanked Nick for his words.
He told MailOnline last week: ‘Luca has had a rough ride this week but I would like to say thank you to the Cave’s, they are good friends.
‘I don’t speak to Nick much but my wife speaks to Susie two or three times a week.
‘I don’t think they are big Love Island fans, to be honest. I’m not so sure Nick would take any interest but in it.
‘I think Susie would because she’s so close to Maria. There is about an 18 month age gap between Luca and the twins.
‘They were at school together and Luca was quite close with Earl before he went into films and modelling.’
He also referenced the social media abuse that has been directed at Luca during his time in the villa.
He said: ‘To be honest, he’s oblivious to what’s going on because he’s on the island but his sister is running his social media accounts and some of the hatred that’s spewed out.
‘It wasn’t nice and for Nick to do that off his own back just to show some support is a very classy gesture.’

Nick and his wife had proudly taken twins Arthur and Earl to several high profile events and the brothers had appeared at the end of 20,000 Days on Earth, a film documenting a fictitious 24 hour period in the singer’s life.
A coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death at an inquest later in 2015, after which Nick said the grief was ‘unimaginable’. The family also spoke of their heartbreak after the death of their ‘beautiful, happy loving boy’.
The singer suffered double tragedy in May after son Jethro Lazenby – his child with former partner Beau Lazenby – died aged 30.
Jethro, who lived in Melbourne, had been released from prison on bail two days before he died, having been jailed for kneeing his mother in the face during a row over cigarettes – leaving her ‘bruised and bleeding’.
‘With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away,’ Nick said in a statement. ‘We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.’

Jethro was born to his Melbourne-based model mother Beau in 1991, who was in a relationship with Nick at the time. He worked as a model, while also taking on a number of acting roles.
He was released on bail from Melbourne Remand Centre after a magistrate ordered he undergo substance abuse treatment and avoid contact with her for two years.
According to the BBC, in 2018 Jethro spent time in jail for several violent attacks on his then-girlfriend.

Nick has two other sons, Luke, 30, from his first marriage to Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro, and Earl, 21, from his marriage to Susie Bick, who he wed in 1999.
The singer has composed scores for a number of films, including The Proposition in 2005, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in 2007, and The Road in 2009. He also co-wrote 20,000 Days on Earth.
Nick is most famous for his work with his band the Bad Seeds, formed in Melbourne in 1983. Previously he was in cult band the Birthday Party.
But his biggest hit was a duet with Kylie Minogue – Where The Wild Roses Grow. The pair are still friends and appeared together in his 20,000 Days on Earth film.
Outburst: Fans had called for Gemma to break off her relationship with the fishmonger, after he raged at her for ‘flirting’ with Billy on the show
Love island star Luca has been condemned for his treatment of love interest Gemma Owen after he had a heated outburst after watching a clip of her supposedly flirting with fellow islander Billy.
It has been revealed that Luca’s Twitter account has been deleted amid the backlash to his behavior on the show. It is not clear if his family were the ones to delete the account or if it was removed.
Luca’s family took to Instagram Stories on his account to say they do not condone his behaviour towards partner Gemma.
They say his behaviour is not reflective of the boy they ‘know and love at home’ but noted that his Love Island experience is an intense one.
