2 pipe bombs found in same Kamloops neighbourhood, 24 hours apart: RCMP

Police have confirmed that two suspicious devices discovered within 24 hours in the same Kamloops, B.C., neighbourhood this week were pipe bombs.

According to Kamloops RCMP, officers responded to a report of a suspicious package on the roadside in the 2100-block of Sifton Avenue in the city’s Aberdeen neighbourhood around 9 p.m. PT Tuesday.

This followed a report on Monday evening about a suspicious package on the 900-block of Greystone Crescent, less than two kilometres away.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the RCMP Explosive Device Unit, which had been dispatched from B.C.’s Lower Mainland, determined the two packages were pipe bombs.

“Considering the similarities present, it’s not unreasonable to suggest these incidents could be related,” said Evelyn in a news release Thursday.

“The investigation is ongoing, which includes examining if these incidents are indeed connected and establishing any motive that may be involved.”

The RCMP cordoned off sections of both Greystone Crescent and Sifton Avenue, but no evacuations were ordered for nearby residences.

In the meantime, the RCMP are appealing to the public for any information and are asking residents in the Aberdeen neighbourhood to be vigilant of any unusual items and report them to the police as soon as possible.
