Love triangle and home break in led to the murder of Brazilian soccer player shot and decapitated

A Brazilian soccer player who was decapitated and dumped in a river allegedly broke into his former girlfriend’s home and found her in bed with another man, who responded by shooting him.

Hugo Skulny, 19, was reported missing June 26 after failing to return home a day earlier following a party in the Paraguayan border city of Pindoty Porã. After leaving the gas station party, Skulny was dropped off near the home of his former partner, Rubia de Oliver, in Sete Quedas, Brazil.

Parts of Skulny’s body were found Sunday in the Iguatemi River, but his head was still missing as of Wednesday. Authorities confirmed his identity after spotting the tattoo of his late father’s name on his forearm.

De Oliver was taken into custody Monday and told investigators she attempted to escort Skulny out of her room and that she was unaware that Danilo da Silva, 19, was going to open fire.

‘She was surprised by the victim when she was sleeping with a man in her room,’ her lawyer, Felipe Cazuo, told Brazilian news outlet G1.

Skulny, according to the attorney, was cursing at da Silva and de Oliver, who then tried to push him out of the room before he was struck by the gun fire.

‘That shot was fired by the person who was behind her. So, she didn’t see that the person was going to shoot. At first it was in her defense,’ Cazuo said. ‘After the shots, the author of the shots and another man who was in the next room removed Hugo from the residence. She didn’t do anything. She didn’t help at all.’

De Oliver told the police that da Silva and a man identified as Maninho, who was in the home at the time of the shooting, drove to the river, where they discarded the body.

Cazuo said that de Oliver decided not to report the shooting to the police ‘because she felt threatened’ by da Silva. Her mother approached the Sete Quedas Civil Police to arrange her voluntary surrender.

De Oliver told police that she and Skulny dated from 2019 to 2020 and remained friends but would occasionally reunite for sex.

She said that they were sitting at the same table at the party and didn’t exchange any words.

Maninho was questioned by the police and said he woke up from his sleep after he heard multiple shots.

He told investigators that da Silva threatened him if he didn’t comply with helping him remove Skulny’s body from the residence. He also revealed that they parked the vehicle on a road near the river and that da Silva removed the body on his own before dumping it in the water.

Maninho added that he doesn’t recall when the body was hacked and that da Silva attempted to cover up the crime by using a hose to clean the car before returning to de Oliver’s home.

According to de Oliver, she also cleaned the entrance to her home before da Silva forced her to drive him home.

Authorities visited de Oliver’s home Wednesday morning to reconstruct the scene of the crime as part of the investigation.

Police said they were working on the arrests of three suspects, but didn’t name da Silva a fugitive.

Skulny was a freshman in college and was majoring in physical education.

He also played for the Projetinho, a local municipality club.

‘He was playing like never before, and he dreamed of soon standing out and being able to join a big team,’ his cousin Andressa Skulny told G1. ‘He was even a little impatient to achieve his goals soon.’
