Q1 tower Gold Coast evacuated after fire erupts

 A fire has erupted at the tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere on the Gold Coast, sparking chaotic scenes along the popular holiday strip.

Emergency services raced to the Q1 high rise on Hamilton Avenue in Surfers Paradise around 7am on Monday following reports of a blaze.

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from the building with reports there are also people stuck in the lift inside the building.

The blaze is believed to have started in a rubbish bin chute and has since been extinguished.

Paramedics have treated several people at the scene and are ssisting with evacuating people still inside. 

‘There are few patients suffering smoke inhalation, we have a young gentleman with an arm injury due to the evacuation, he fell in the firewell and at the moment we are working with fire to do further evacuations,’ a paramedic told Sunrise.

Hamilton Avenue, Clifford street and Surfers Paradise Boulevard are currently blocked off.
