Outraged mom says Texas daycare handed her toddler daughter’s FINGERTIP in a plastic bag

A Texas mother has blasted her daughter’s daycare after she was handed the daughter’s fingertip when she picked the youngster up at the end of the day.

Danielle Hurt said her 15-month-old daughter Madilyn is now left with a ‘life-long deformity’ after her teacher let a door swing shut on her hand.

The shocking incident occurred on June 2 at the Early Learning Center 2 in Cypress Texas, with Danielle accusing the daycare of being negligent with her daughter.

‘It will become like a life-long deformity. She’ll never have that portion of her finger,’ the mother told ABC13.

Child protective services launched an investigation over the incident, while Hurt accused Cypress-Fair school district of failing to take the injury seriously.

She says she became enraged after watching surveillance footage of the grisly moment, which came after her toddler was playing outside.

While walking back inside, Hurt claims a teacher wasn’t paying attention and allowed a door to shut while Madilyn’s finger was in the way.

However, Hurt said the daycare’s negligent approach to her daughter was furthered by their delayed and casual reaction to the toddler losing a finger.

Rather than urgently calling 911 and trying to reattach the finger as fast as possible, Hurt said they merely called her and asked her to pick up her child.

When she arrived at the daycare, she alleges that a staffer matter-of-factly said: ‘Oh, we need to give you her finger’.

‘I wasn’t aware that an actual good portion of her finger was in a plastic bag until I got ready to go,’ Hurt claimed. ‘They did not let me know that upfront.’

‘This can’t be an accident if a teacher allows the door to amputate a good portion of a child’s finger. It can’t be an accident.’

Madilyn was eventually taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, where doctors were able to reattach the finger. However, Hurt said it is likely to fall off.

‘It will become like a life-long deformity. She’ll never have that portion of her finger,’ she added.

The toddler was seen with a full arm cast following the incident to protect her injured hand until it heals.

Eyewitness News reported that Child Protective Services launched an investigation into the daycare, and will report its findings to state regulators.

While Hurt reportedly feels the Cypress-Fair school district has not taken it seriously, the body maintained that it self-reported the event.

In a statement, the school district said: ‘Immediately after the accident occurred, the staff administered first aid to the child and called the child’s mom, who quickly arrived at the center and voluntarily transported her child to a medical facility.

‘The incident was determined to be an accident; both the teacher and director remain employed by the district.’
