Boy, 16, is killed when he is hit by car while walking near Bournemouth airport as man is arrested 

A teenage boy has died after being knocked down by a car near Bournemouth Airport yesterday. 

Dorset Police have opened an investigation following a horrific traffic collision that took the life of a 16-year-old Christchurch local.

While paramedics rushed to the scene after 9.37pm last night, the unnamed boy died and his next of kin have been informed.

One man has also been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and officers are now appealing to the public for further information. 

Inspector Craig Tatton, of the Roads Policing Team, said: ‘Tragically, a young person has lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time.

‘We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I would urge any witnesses to please contact us.

‘We are aware that the current road closure has a large impact at the location and I am very grateful for everyone’s patience while it is necessary to stay in place to enable us to gather all required evidence.’
