The performer shares Monroe and her twin brother Moroccan with her former husband, Nick Cannon.

Carey and Cannon, 42, initially met while working on the music video for her track Bye Bye.

The former couple eventually began a relationship and went on to tie the knot in 2008.

The singer and the comedian eventually started a family with Moroccan and Monroe’s arrival in 2011.

However, the former couple separated in 2014, and their divorce was finalized in 2016.

Carey and Cannon have remained on amicable terms and currently co-parent their children.

The comedian went on to welcome ten children with several other partners in the subsequent years.

The singer spoke about her parenting style during an interview with Us Weekly, where she expressed that she had adopted a laid-back approach to motherhood. 

‘I’m going to have to quote Mean Girls and be, like, “I’m not a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.” There are no rules in this house,’ she said.

The performer also remarked that she was not a fan of using negative reinforcement with her children.

‘I don’t like being the bad guy, I have to say. I really don’t, like, I hate that more than anything,’ she said.

Carey went on to state that she aspired to achieve a certain standing with her children, although she admitted that it would be a lofty goal. 

‘I do want to be, like, “I’m not really a mom, I’m a cool mom.” But you’re never a cool mom, like, you just never are,’ she said.
