Security company Zscaler ThreatLabz recently discovered apps with multiple instances of Joker, Facestealer and Coper malware families in Google Play Store. The ThreatLabz team notified Google Android Security team and they reportedly removed these malicious apps from the Google Play Store. However, Google removing them from Play Store does not remove these dangerous apps from the phones of users who have downloaded them. It is critical for these users to delete them from their devices. As for what Joker, Facestealer and Coper malware are: Joker is one of the most persistent malware on Google Play Store it subscribes users to paid services online without their knowledge. Facestealer is a malware that steals Facebook accounts by hiding fake login forms over the real ones in popular Android apps. Coper is a trojan that targets banking apps in Europe, Australia and South America. So far, it has not been found targeting users in India but with the speed at which malware spreads, it’s better to be careful.
