Apple Music for Android update is now rolling out in beta, here’s what’s new

Apple has started rolling out a new update for the Music app on Android in beta. The update brings a couple of changes and updates including new iOS 17 style widgets on Android. Along with this, the update also includes a couple of other features of the Music app from the latest iOS version.

What’s included in the update
The update is pretty big and it brings new Android home screen widgets from iOS 17. This includes the new “Now Playing” widget which was earlier named as “Apple Music Player” on Android. Design-wise, it is still the same though.

Another widget that’s part of the update is the “Recently Played” widget which moves from the grid of cover art to the list view and it now has the name and artist in it.

While these two widgets are mere updates, there are two new widgets that have been added:

Recommendations: This widget shows Play Top Picks, New Releases and a couple of other suggestions from the Music app.

Top Charts: This widgets lists top charts from the location or city of users’ choice.

Both these widgets come with Apple’s Red accent colour along with Dynamic colour from Android. However, the latter currently appears to be broken as it applies across the board except for these widgets. Also, the existing widgets use the blurred album art as the background as of now.

Rollout details
As mentioned, the changes are now live in the Apple Music 4.5 update for Android in beta. It means, the widgets are available and to be able to use them you’ll have to enroll on the Apple Music beta program from Google Play Store.

To do that, head to the Google Play Store and search Apple Music app. Then, scroll down and tap on the Join the Beta button.

Once enrolled, wait for the update to arrive and once available update the app to get the latest beta available.
