WhatsApp introduced its communities feature in December 2022. Since then, the Meta-owned platform keeps on rolling out new features to improve the user experience for WhatsApp Communities users. Now WhatsApp has started rolling out a new general group chat feature for communities.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app is working on a new feature to improve communication between communities and community members. Available for Android beta testers, the Meta-owned platform is rolling out a general group chat feature for communities.
As per the report, this is a new group for communities that allows community members to talk with each other. When someone joins a community, they may automatically be added to the general group chat, just like it already happens with the community announcement group. To find out if this feature is already available for your WhatsApp account, you need to create a new community.
“Note that the maximum capacity for this group is still 1024. In addition, it seems that this group is not protected by the phone number privacy option and its participants list is not hidden,” mentions the report.
The new general chat feature will enable the new community members to talk to other people and learn how the community and its groups work.
WhatsApp allows users to create groups without naming them
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to create groups within the instant messaging app without the initial requirement of naming them. Previously, users were required to assign a name before group members could begin chatting.
This feature is particularly useful in situations where users want to quickly set up a group. It’s worth noting that groups without a name, with a maximum capacity of six participants, will now be automatically assigned a name based on the group members’ composition.
