Apple releases iOS 17 developer beta 3: Here’s what’s new

Apple has released the third developer beta of the iOS 17 update to developers for testing. The beta brings some minor refinements and adjustments to features and interface elements. Here’s what’s new in iOS 17 beta 3.

Apple updated the Recently Deleted album interface. There’s now a three-dot menu icon with the recover and delete options. You can delete or recover specific images or all at once. There’s also a Save as Video option for Live Photos and a “Feature This Person Less” option for deleting or recovering images of a person.

Apple’s Health app updated the Mental Wellbeing section with a more streamlined design and colour scheme. Emotion colours have been tweaked, and buttons/backgrounds match the selected mood. Users can set reminders to log their moods on a customised schedule.

In Apple Music, you can view song credits, lyrics, and audio options by tapping the three-dot icon next to a song. The credits section shows all the artists involved in production and engineering. Note that full lyrics are no longer in the standard dropdown menu.

The thumbnail in iMessage’s Photos app now displays the latest photo added to your library. As you add more photos to your Camera Roll, the thumbnail will update accordingly. Previously, the thumbnail used to show a generic, unchanging image.

iOS 17 has several enhancements, such as customizable call screens, live voicemail, and improved SharePlay. Messages now come with a sticker creation option and a new safety feature. Siri can now be activated without saying “Hey Siri,” and standby mode turns the iPhone into a smart display. Apart from these upgrades, the update includes new features that promote both physical and mental health.

The first public beta build for iOS 17 is expected to come out this month. Meanwhile, the iOS 17 should be available for compatible iPhones as a software update in September.
