Melbourne, Sydney Brisbane airport checkin issues: Major delays

There are major delays at airports across the country as the passport processing system crashes nationwide

Some travellers say they have been stuck in line for hours, waiting for their passports to be processed.

The Australian Border Force confirmed ‘our service provider who manages the Advanced Passenger Processing systems (APP) is experiencing an IT outage’.

‘The system outage is affecting the APP in all international check-in points’, an ABF spokesperson said.

‘We are working with the service provider to assist with resolving the matter urgently’.

The spokesperson said the ABF ‘will revert to manual processing of passengers where applicable’.

A customer posted the news to Twitter on Thursday morning, writing: ‘all international check in desks at @Melair are down and have been for last 30mins. Long queues now forming’.

Melbourne Airport replied to the post, confirming the issue.

‘There was an ABF technology issue that has now been addressed. All international flights continue to check-in,’ the airport wrote.

However, the customer insited he had been ‘standing the front of the check in and they are saying system is still down’.

A Melbourne Airport spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the Australian Border Force’s system had been down for ‘most of the morning’ and the issue was nation-wide.

The spokeperson said check in for international flights was still going ahead but was happening ‘a lot slower than usual’.
