WhatsApp has been testing Channels features on its platform for a while now. The Channels feature was made available to select beta testers from across the world initially, then the Meta-owned instant messaging app expanded the beta to more testers. Several other developments related to WhatsApp Channels have already been reported. Now, WABetaInfo has reported that the instant messaging app is planning to make it easier for users to find a channel on the platform.
According to the report, WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.4 update is now rolling out via Google Play Store and it includes the feature that makes it easier to find new channels.
Based on the screenshot posted, the app will get a new section that will allow users to search for specific channels. The search field in the new section will let users type text to search for a channel by its name. Apart from that, the section will also feature three filters to choose from including recently added, popularity and alphabetically.
How it will help users
Now, Channels on WhatsApp are aimed as a new broadcasting tool for users which will allow them to post new content, updates, etc on the platform. Channels here will work as a sort of community where users can post things. However, to be able to see those posts, users will need to find and join the channel and that will be possible if users can search the channels better without having to click on links or requesting others to help them join the channel.
The new search feature will just do that for users. They can search a particular channel and filter them with one of the available options.
Now, we still don’t know when the feature will roll out to the stable version of WhatsApp. But we expect it to happen in the coming updates.
