Google Play offers quite useful parental control features that help parents manage control of their child’s device in terms of contents viewed and features accessed. Parents can create a Google Account for their child who is under 13 years of age. Additionally, they can manage it using the Family Link app on their smartphones.
When parental controls are implemented on an Android device, parents can restrict or keep a track on what content their kids are downloading or purchasing from Google Play Store on that device based on maturity level.
However, purchase approval settings will only apply to purchases made through Google Play’s billing system. Here are some of the parental control options available on Google Play:
Google Play Family Library: This feature helps parents track and control the content their children can download and access. With this, parents will be able to monitor purchased apps, games, movies, TV shows, and books installed by their kids on the respective device.
Content Filtering: Google allows parents to set up content filtering levels based on the maturity of apps, games, movies, and TV shows available on the Play Store. The filters include Everyone, Low maturity, Medium maturity, and High maturity. Parent’s can customise the filter based on their child’s age and restrict access to inappropriate content.
App Approval: The App Approval feature on Google Play allows parents to review, approve or decline the app request from the kids before they can install the application. With this parents can manage control over the apps a child can access.
Purchase Approvals: Parents can prevent unauthorised purchases on their child’s account by enabling purchase approval and ensuring that you have control over the spending.
Password Protection: Setting up a password or PIN on a Google Play account can provide an extra layer of security that prevents unauthorised access or changes made to the parental control settings.
It is to be noted that these parental control settings may vary depending on the device and the version of the Google Play Store app.
