Porting an existing game onto another platform is no easy task as we have recently witnessed in the case of The Last of Us Part I. The game, first released for PS5, rolled out its PC version on March 28 and has had multiple players reporting various issues since then.
Developer Naughty Dog took note of the situation within a day of launch and revealed it was working on “investigating” the issues. The company tweeted some reassurance for affected users, “We’ve heard your concerns, and our team is actively investigating multiple issues you’ve reported. We will continue to update you, but our team is prioritising updates. It will address issues in upcoming patches.” Not long after, the developer released a patch for “stability and performance improvements.”

‘The Last of Us Part I’ PC port not up to “Naughty Dog quality”
In its latest update, Naughty Dog openly acknowledged the port not meeting its ‘usual’ standards. It announced, “We know some of you have not experienced the Naughty Dog quality you expected. Our team is working hard to resolve issues currently preventing some of you from experiencing the game to ensure it reaches the quality level you expect and deserve.”
Among the various issues reported, several of them involved glitching in-game textures, unusual camera movement, and ‘occasional’ crashes. While this has generated criticism from several gamers on social media, few of them have even urged Naughty Dog to provide a refund.
Interestingly, Iron Galaxy – the company that worked on the PC port of ‘The Last of Us Part I’ – faced similar launch troubles with its Batman Arkham Knight PC port in 2015. However, the same company has also worked on games, such as ‘Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection’, which didn’t have nearly the same issues as the other two titles.
