How Instagram is making it easier to ‘reshare’ older Reels

Meta-owned popular photo-sharing platform Instagram keeps adding new features to improve the user experience. The social media platform is now reportedly testing a new feature that will enable users to quickly access the Reels they have recently shared. This feature will make it easier for users to reshare a Reel that they have liked to another user later on. A Twitter user named Dijital Ağlar has shared a post about Instagram testing this feature. According to a report by TechCrunch, Instagram has also confirmed the development of this feature in a statement.

Instagram tests new feature: How will it work
The Twitter post claims that Instagram is showing a new row with the “Latest Shares” label which is available at the top of the DM section. The tweet also included some screenshots that mentioned how the shared posts will also show the avatars of the users you shared a Reel with. For example, if a user shares a single short video multiple times, it will show up only once with the avatar of the friend it was last shared with.

Meta’s reaction to this new Instagram feature
As per the report, a Meta spokesperson said, “We’re rolling out improvements to how you can search for and rediscover Reels that were previously shared in messages.” however, the social media giant didn’t confirm if this feature will show up for other non-Reels posts in the latest shares section. The company also didn’t mention when this feature will be available for all users.

Instagram’s push for Reels
In 2022, Instagram announced that any video which is shorter than 15 minutes will be considered a Reels post. For the past few years, the company has also been focusing on the short video format. So, the upcoming feature might be restricted to Reels as well.

Importance of this feature
Instagram is testing this feature as the social media platform wants its users to share and view short videos regularly. Recently, Meta announced that it will stop the creator bonuses program for Reels. This suggests that the company is planning to focus on other ways of monetisation like ad revenue sharing.
