Zoe Saldana has made film history.

The showbiz icon, 44, has become the first actor to have been in four films which made more than $2 billion at the box office, according to People.

The distinction comes after Zoe’s latest film, Avatar: The Way Of The Water, exceeded that amount at the box office.

The four films Zoe starred in which made more than $2B are Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar, and it’s sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Avatar director James Cameron also made history over the weekend, becoming the only director to have helmed three films which topped $2 billion at the worldwide box office, according to TMZ.

Those films are Titanic, the original Avatar film, and now it’s 2022 sequel, Avatar: The Way Of The Water, which recently surpassed $2 billion globally at the box office in just six weeks.

The milestone achievement makes Avatar: The Way Of The Water ‘the six highest-grossing films of all time,’ according to Deadline.

The highly-anticipated sequel was reportedly ‘one of the most expensive films ever made, with a budget estimated at $350 million or more.’

The news comes after Cameron confirmed there will be Avatar sequels after saying that the latest film would definitely make the profit needed to continue the franchise.

Earlier this month, the director, 68, quipped on HBO Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? that he ‘can’t wiggle out’ of creating the final two Avatar movies as his latest flick.

‘It looks like with the momentum that the film has now that we’ll easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this and I’m gonna have to do these other sequels,’ he said.

The director added: ‘I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years.’

Previously, the filmmaker has made no secret of the astronomical costs of making the movie, describing it as ‘very f***** expensive.’

The director even said before the release of the third instalment that he would end the whole franchise early if audiences do not seem to ‘give a s***’.

Elsewhere, on the HBO Max show, he referred to the misunderstanding about his comments about the profits needed from The Way Of Water.

The director revealed that he said the film needed to be among the highest-grossing films in history to break even, the Metro reported.

But he added that many had taken his comments differently, thinking that The Way Of Water needed to reach $2 billion (£1.65bn) and be in the top 10 to break even.

James explained: ‘[I] never actually gave it a number. I said it would have to be among the highest-grossing films in history and somebody else applied that number and it got picked up. The number is actually less.’

He then added that he expects to have a discussion with Disney soon about what is going to happen with Avatar 3.

James continued: ‘We’ve already captured and photographed the whole film, so we’re in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can.’

The sequel surpassed the former champion, the monster hit Top Gun: Maverick, following the latest box office totals, according to Deadline.

The mostly computer-generated film has already made more than $1.5 billion globally total since its debut in theatres on December 16.

Top Gun: Maverick grossed $1.49 billion during its lengthy theatrical run, which Avatar 2 is likely to mimic, and the Tom Cruise–starring movie broke streaming records on Paramount+ after it debuted on the service on December 22.
