Apple announced support for satellite connectivity on its smartphones with the launch of the iPhone 14 series a couple of months ago. The latest connectivity feature recently went live for iPhone users in several markets across the world. This feature allows users to access satellite connectivity during emergencies like when cellular networks are unreliable or unavailable. Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy S23 series in a few months and a new rumour suggests that the next-gen flagship smartphone lineup from the Korean tech giant will also improve and include the satellite connectivity feature which is available in iPhone 14 devices. Apart from this, the Galaxy S23 lineup is also expected to feature an upgraded fingerprint sensor developed by Qualcomm.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S23 series in February 2023. The smartphones in this lineup will run on Android 13 out-of-the-box and the Ultra variant of this series is also expected to adopt new camera sensors. The upcoming smartphones in this family are likely to boast a similar design and most handsets will reportedly come powered by Snapdragon chipsets instead of Samsung’s Exynos processors.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series: Satellite connectivity (expected)
According to a report by The Elec, Samsung is likely to include satellite connectivity in the upcoming Galaxy S23 series devices. Satellite connectivity in Samsung devices will be powered by a partner, Iridium. Earlier this year, the company that owns 66 low-orbit communication satellites reportedly struck a deal with the smartphone makers to provide the feature.

It is important to note that Apple’s satellite connection is powered by Globalstar and can be used only for emergencies. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to use the satellite connection in the Galaxy S23 series for more than just emergencies.

The Korean phone maker is planning to use satellite connectivity for transmitting data like text messages and low-capacity images at hundreds of kbps. As per the report, this will be possible only by overcoming the technical limitations of including an antenna which is needed to handle such communications.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series: New fingerprint sensor (expected)
If rumours are to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 is also likely to feature Qualcomm’s third-gen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. However, it is still unclear whether it’s the same 3D Sonic Max sensor launched by Qualcomm earlier this year, reports Sammobile.
