0 Tasmanian teenager Hamish McKenzie has been pipped for gold in agonising fashion in the UCI Road World Championships junior men’s time trial in Wollongong on Tuesday.
The fourth rider out, McKenzie blitzed the 28.8km course with a 35:18.45 ride at an average of 48.941 km/h.
Much like compatriot Grace Brown on Sunday, McKenzie then had to sit and wait for about three hours to see if anyone could better his time.

No-one could until Joshua Tarling of Great Britain, the last rider out, who scorched around the course to beat McKenzie by 19.19s.
Australia now has two silver medals at the world champs and a men’s star on the rise.
One of McKenzie’s coaches, Henk Vogels, said the young Tasmanian had a ruthless attitude to his riding.

“It’s probably why I like Hamish so much, because he’s got so much mongrel in him,’ Vogels told Stan Sport.
“And that’s a good term, that’s not a bad term. You really need to be a strong, aggressive rider and that’s what he is.
“You saw in his power numbers, he’s got the physiology to back it up.
“(Former pro) Matthew Gilmore’s done a wonderful job bringing him up for these world championships.
“Everything’s been revolved around his time trial today.
“They’ve been doing specific work for months for this, they know this course back to front.”
