Parramatta Eels vs Cronulla Sharks; Round 13 results, updates, highlights; Andrew Johns floats ‘tempting’ Mitchell Moses idea for NSW Blues

Eels star Mitchell Moses will return to the field for the first time in 10 weeks on Thursday night – and there’s already talk of him pulling on a NSW Blues jumper.

The halfback suffered a broken foot in round three and has been sidelined for over two months, but is back on deck for a must-win clash against Cronulla.

Moses was expected to be picked in the Blues squad for the State of Origin opener prior to his injury, but the halves spots have now gone to Jarome Luai and Nicho Hynes.

However, with the Sharks superstar struggling with a calf injury, NSW legend Andrew Johns raised the potential idea of Moses being “parachuted” into the side for game one.

“Mitch Moses is the incumbent, he’s got an incredible kicking game and he’s got the experience,” he said on Wide World Of Sports’ Immortal Behaviour.

“You’d be tempted to parachute him in … it’s a six-day recovery from tonight until Wednesday. They’ve literally dragged players out of the pub on a Monday who have played on Wednesday. Geez it will be interesting, it will be interesting tonight.

“I think Parramatta will win and I reckon Moses will have a big game. If he really shoots the lights out … far out, there’s some questions there. You’d be very tempted.”

Moses played in the dead-rubber for the Blues last year and performed admirably, but his untimely setback in 2024 derailed his hopes of featuring in the Origin opener.

Hynes has reportedly been limited in NSW camp during their recent training sessions, with plenty of question marks over his fitness for the clash against Queensland.

Luke Keary and Matt Burton were both selected in the squad as cover for Hynes, with the latter expected to fill 18th man duties next Wednesday.
