Ryan Giggs trial live: Ex-Manchester United star back in witness box after breaking down in tears | UK News

Prosecutor Peter Wright QC says Ryan Giggs “berated” Kate Greville’s sister Emma and was “chastising her” for calling the police after the alleged assaults.

“That’s what you did, isn’t it?” Mr Wright asks.

“Yes,” Giggs replies.

Mr Wright suggests Giggs was “blaming” Emma Greville.

“Yes,” the former footballer says.

Asked why, Giggs replies: “I don’t know.”

The court has previously heard Kate Greville’s phone was found on a fence post in Giggs’s garden after the alleged assaults.

The prosecutor says Giggs “disposed” of her phone.

“Yes,” Giggs says.

Asked why he did it, he replies: “I don’t know.”

Mr Wright suggests the “reason was the conflict being about her phone wouldn’t fit the narrative in quite the same way”.

“That’s not correct,” Giggs says.

The prosecutor says it was an “act of spite”.

“It was stupid. I don’t know why I did it,” Giggs says.

Mr Wright suggests it was “some other form of control”.

“No, it was just an act of stupidity,” Giggs says.
