Another twist in the title race? A winning dugout debut? All change in the top-six battle? There’s plenty at stake ahead of Wednesday’s Scottish Premiership action…
Following Hibernian’s 2-2 draw at home to Ross County on Tuesday, all 10 other clubs are in action – with every match covered on Sky Sports News and in our live blog on the Sky Sports app and website.
Here’s a look at some of the key talking points ahead of a big night of cinch Premiership action under the lights…
Can Celtic return to winning ways?
Celtic are the only team unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership but will be looking to return to winning ways when they host St Mirren.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were held to a goalless draw at Hibernian on Saturday with their lead at the top of the table now five points.
Midfielder Reo Hatate is out until after Christmas with a hamstring injury but defender Alistair Johnston should be fit despite being forced off at Easter Road after taking a ball to the face.
The Buddies have had an impressive season and sit third in the table after their 4-0 victory over St Johnstone last time out.
Stephen Robinson’s side stunned the Hoops at home last season and you only have to look back to January 2021 for their last win at Parkhead.
Away day delight for Clement?
Rangers head to Dens Park full of confidence after a dramatic late win over Hearts that saw them close the gap on title rivals Celtic.
New boss Philippe Clement has won both league games since replacing Michael Beale, but faces his domestic away day against a side yet to lose on their own patch in the league this season.
He will also be without several key first-team players, with Nicolas Raskin and John Souttar added to the absentee list as Rangers battle against injury issues that have plagued the squad all season.
Dundee are fifth and were celebrating a win of their own at the weekend as they beat Livingston to equal their longest unbeaten run in the top-flight since 2018.
Tony Docherty – whose side have not conceded a goal in 279 minutes – will however be without Josh Mulligan due to injury, while Crystal Palace loanee Malachi Boateng is a doubt after missing training on Monday.
Will Saints respond after MacLean sacking?
Hours before he was sacked, Steven MacLean said some St Johnstone players had “chucked it” after their loss to St Mirren.
The club are bottom of the table, without a win all season and five points from potential safety – making it no easy task for interim boss Alec Cleland who is hoping to improve morale and results.
Kilmarnock are the visitors to Perth and while the history books might point in the hosts’ favour – with St Johnstone winning six of the last eight top-flight games between the sides and Killie losing all three of their last league visits to McDiarmid Park – Derek McInnes’ side are high on confidence.
A 3-1 win at home to Livingston was followed up by a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Rugby Park – live on Sky Sports – as his side moved up to fourth in the league.
Daniel Armstrong has been key for Killie this season. He has the most assists in the league – getting his fourth of the campaign against Aberdeen – and is only second to Matt O’Riley for the most combined goals and assists by any player – one behind the Celtic midfielder’s tally of eight.
Dons or Motherwell to end winless run?
Aberdeen will be looking to kick-off November on a high after picking up just one Premiership point last month and find themselves sitting 11th.
Barry Robson’s side suffered a European hangover on Sunday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock after their late Europa Conference League defeat to PAOK.
Motherwell halted their losing run on Saturday, coming back from 3-1 down to draw with Ross County at Fir Park but are without a victory in their last five league games.
The Dons have won their last two top-flight matches against the Fir Park side and another win could see them move into the top six.
Hearts or Livi to break into top-six?
It has been a disappointing season for Hearts so far with their late 2-1 defeat at Rangers on Sunday leaving them without a win in their last three league matches.
The Jambos have managed just three victories this season and have dropped to seventh in the table.
Livingston are a side also desperate for points after Saturday’s defeat to Dundee left them just one point above the relegation play-off place.
Tynecastle Park is not a place Livi enjoy travelling to and are winless in their last 12 top-flight trips to Gorgie.
