NRL clubs are lining up to sign a gun Kiwi rugby union outside back in the mould of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Solomon Alaimalo is a speedy, tall tryscorer who can play wing, centre and fullback.

At 27, he has done the rounds in the 15-a-side game and is looking to challenge himself in the NRL, signing with player managers Pacific Sports Management.

Alaimalo began his career with a bang at the highly-rated Chiefs a few seasons back but injuries and a mental health break have seen his career stall somewhat.

He’s currently playing for Canterbury in the Kiwi NPC competition and has attracted the interest of league scouts.

“He’s got a good mix of speed, step and power,” Alaimalo’s manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports.

“The guy has everything it takes to be a real success in the NRL.”

NRL club facing legal battle

One NRL club is working overtime with its lawyers after sacking a female employee recently.

The woman has hired lawyers of her own and is hitting the club with a wrongful dismissal suit.

The dispute could get ugly if it gets to the courtroom, with the details set to interest the daily papers.

Standby for developments as the lawyers sharpen their pencils.

Wests Tigers fume over double awards snub

The poor old Tigers aren’t just dirty about their star young fullback Jahream Bula missing out on the Dally M Rookie of the Year award.

In the NRLW, their winger Jakiya Whitfeld had an outstanding debut season and was a worthy winner of the Dally M winger of the year.

But yet she wasn’t even nominated for the rookie of the year award.

When Tigers officials asked about her omission, they were given a simple answer – the NRLW forgot she was a rookie!

Rabbitohs sign ‘powerful’ young gun

The Rabbitohs have signed a strapping front-rower from the Gold Coast region.

Jared Johnson, a 19-year-old who stood out for Tweed Seagulls Hastings Deering Colts this year, is versatile – he can also play second row and centre.

A powerful youngster with good ball skills, he is of Fijian / Aboriginal heritage and the Rabbitohs beat several clubs to get his signature on a two-year deal.

Johnson will start 2024 in the Rabbitohs’ Jersey Flegg team but officials will watch his progress with great interest.
