Reports have emerged that rival AFL clubs are weighing up an offer for Melbourne Demons star Clayton Oliver as discussion around the trade period ramps up.
Oliver has played 162 games for the club and been part of its resurgence into a regular premiership contender.
However, afl.com.au reporters Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge revealed on AFL Trade Radio’s Gettable that there may be interest in prizing him away from the Demons.

“Clubs are weighing up now whether to make a move for Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver in this year’s trade period,” Beveridge said.
“Oliver obviously has a massive seven-year contract that he signed in the middle of last year that now takes him through until the end of 2030 but he obviously had a very challenging year … only played 15 games, missed 10 weeks through the middle of the campaign with a hamstring injury but also that blister on his foot which became infected.”
Due to the contract Oliver signed, the cost of clubs attempting to trade for the midfielder would be astronomical and Twomey explained it’s unlikely the Demons or the player himself would be interested in a switch.
“Rival clubs are considering the cost of a trade attempt for Oliver, a four-time best and fairest winner with the Demons,” he said.
“It is unclear whether he would be open to any move and there’s been absolutely no indication that Melbourne would part with him either.
“This is from the point of view of rival clubs getting their things in order to see if a play for him is something they want to proceed with. It’s going to be one to watch over the next couple of weeks.”
The AFL’s trade period begins on Monday October 9 and finishes October 16 at 5pm AEDT.
