Tragic details have emerged of the final moments of a five-year-old boy before he was struck and killed by a car on a busy road.
The boy was hit by a Jeep Cherokee on Anzac Avenue in Collaroy, on Sydney‘s northern beaches, on Sunday afternoon.
It has since been revealed the five-year-old was watching his older brother play a game of rugby moments before his death.
Witnesses rushed to help the boy and performed CPR on the infant.
One witness grabbed a defibrillator to help the boy.
Paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later before he was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital. He died later that evening.
It’s believed the boy made the trip up up from Dural, in north-west Sydney, to the northern beaches – an hour’s drive between the two suburbs.
NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia that officers are investigating the incident.
‘Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police,’ a spokesperson said.
‘The driver of the vehicle – a 77-year-old man, was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory testing’.
‘A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner’.
Police have not laid any charges.
Local Susie Belenzuela told 7News the accident was devastating.
‘My heart goes out to the family,’ she said.

One resident Diana Cavallaro said major upgrades need to be made on the road to protect the safety of locals.
‘I think with any roads with kids around I think there’s always a safety option that could be had,’ she said.
‘You never want it to be your child’.
The strip, which is next to Griffith Park is busy on the weekends with sport played on the field.
The park regularly hosts rugby union games and is the home ground of the Collaroy ‘Cougars’ rugby union club.
