Ashes 2023 second Test day 2 video highlights, every wicket from Australia v England

The second Ashes Test is finely placed after England enjoyed perhaps its most dominant day of the series on day two.

After Australia began the day in a commanding position, England restricted the tourists to 416 before offering a strong response with the bat in hand.

Ben Duckett led the way for the home side with 98, with England finishing the day on 4-278, 138 runs behind Australia’s first innings total.

Lyon limps off

A bad day at the office was made worse for Australia when Nathan Lyon limped off the field in the final session.

Lyon was stationed at the deep square leg position when he charged in to try and catch a ball off Ben Duckett’s bat and immediately pulled up sore.

The 35-year-old grabbed at his right calf and looked shattered when he was escorted off the ground by one of Australia’s medical staff.

Smith continues Ashes dominance

After a pair of failures at Edgbaston, Steve Smith was well overdue for a big score at Lord’s and did not disappoint.

The former skipper brought up his 12th Ashes century early on day two and was sorely disappointed after he was dismissed shortly afterwards for 110.

It was Smith’s eighth century on English soil.

Green cruelled by no ball issues

Cam Green provided Australia with a much-needed breakthrough in the final session but was left to rue what’s become a bad habit.

The young gun thought he’d taken two wickets in an over when Joe Root gloved one through to Alex Carey for just one.

However, the England star was called back as replays showed Green had overstepped, leaving Australia shattered.

“Ashes series can be defined by moments like that,” Ricky Ponting said at the time.

Luckily for Green and Australia, Root did not do too much more damage after being dismissed for just 10.
