Raiders coach has revealed he hasn’t spoken to Jack Wighton after the prized five-eighth blew the player market wide open on Tuesday when news broke he would explore other options for next season.
“It’s only just eventuated, and honestly, I haven’t spoken to Jack about it,” he told Fox League.
“I haven’t seen much of him this week with the short turnaround and with him suspended.
“Jack knows what I think of him. I don’t need to tell him. He knows I want him hear.
“He’s got a decision to make and I understand the position he’s in, or put himself in regards to the contract. I totally get it.
“It’s probably his last deal, so he’ll look for a long-term deal and he’ll want to set himself up. What I’m comfortable with is that this club has looked after Jack and his family to no end and I’m very comfortable with what we’ve done for Jack over many, many years, and I also know Jack appreciates that.
“Jack knows himself he’s a Raider and he loves the club. But it’s a business decision for Jack and it’s a business decision for us, too. So, we’ll treat it that way. But obviously we’d like Jack to stay.”
