Former Canterbury, Wests and Illawarra hitman Kyle White has died suddenly aged just 53.

The popular forward, who was also a talented musician, passed away in his sleep at his Penrith home on Monday night.

White, who also played for Widnes and Workington Town in England, had a cult hero following.

A front-rower the size of a halfback, he was a ferocious defender, playing well above his weight.

A former Australian Schoolboy representative, White had personal problems in recent years but had been starting to get his life back together over the past 12 months.

“It’s very sad,” White’s brother, former Wests and Illawarra halfback Josh, told Wide World of Sports.

“He had his demons but was getting on top of them.

“He was a very brave and tough player in a tough era and never took a backward step.

“His teammates loved him because they knew they could always count on him to give his all.”
