Adam Gilchrist’s Twitter response to incorrect list of the top 10 wealthiest cricketers in the world

Former Test keeper Adam Gilchrist has been caught up in a comical case of mistaken identity, confused on a list of the top 10 wealthiest cricketers in the world with an entrepreneur of the same name.

Gilchrist topped a list republished by Twitter account, the World Index, in which he was named the richest cricketer in the world this year by business magazine CEOWORLD.

It was reported that Gilchrist boasted an estimated net worth of $380 million – ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and countryman Ricky Ponting.

However, the only issue was that the report had taken into account the wrong Adam Gilchrist.

Seeing the funny side, the Australian cricket legend was quick to set the record straight, taking to his own Twitter account to explain the mix-up and call out the “fake news”.

“A case of mistaken identity here folks,” he wrote.

“Unless of course my namesake who founded F45 played cricket, in which case it’s completely accurate.”

Gilchrist’s net worth was mixed-up with that of the founder of the global fitness franchise F45.

The Australian chain of fitness centres has made headlines recently with several gyms going into liquidation in the last six months.

Whilst the 51-year-old Aussie great might not be the richest cricketer, he does have an impressive record with 96 Test appearances and three ODI World Cup titles.
