The 154th Belmont Stakes on Saturday came with no promise of a Triple Crown winner, but that wasn’t unusual. It’s a rare horse that can win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes and still arrive at the Belmont in top form. Only 13 horses have won all three races.
Rich Strike, the long-shot winner of the Kentucky Derby, wasn’t entered in the Preakness last month, ending his chance at the Triple Crown. But he was back for the Belmont, and fans filled the grounds for the chance to see him add another victory to his Triple Crown résumé.
Our photographers, Haiyun Jiang, Desiree Rios and Uli Seit, were at Belmont Park to capture the energy of the day, both equine and human.
