Brooklyn Nets Fire Coach Steve Nash

The Nets fired Coach Steve Nash on Tuesday as the team struggled on the court and was under fire for the off-court actions of the star guard Kyrie Irving.

“Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision,” Nets General Manger Sean Marks said in a statement. “However, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time.”

The Nets are among the worst teams in the N.B.A., with a record of 2-5 despite starting the season with all three of their best players: Irving, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons.

Irving has faced sharp criticism over the past week after promoting an antisemitic documentary on social media. Despite the backlash, he has not apologized, though on Sunday he took down a post on Twitter that linked to a site where people could rent or download the documentary.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
