Mike Huckabee makes wild claim that 2024 will be the last election ‘decided by ballots rather than bullets’ if Trump is kept off the ballot – or loses presidential race due to his legal woes

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee made a dramatic claim that if former President Donald Trump is kept off the ballot, or loses the 2024 election, due to his legal woes it will be the last U.S. election ‘decided by ballots rather than bullets.’

Huckabee, a longtime ally of the former president, made the comment on his Trinity Broadcasting Network show Wednesday evening.

He asked his audience if they knew how those in power in ‘third world dictatorships, banana republics and communist regimes’ dealt with their political opponents.

‘Well, that’s simple,’ he said. ‘People in power use their police agencies to arrest their opponents for made up crimes in an attempt to discredit them, bankrupt them, imprison them, exile them, or all of the above.’

Huckabee pushed that this is what’s happening to Trump – who has been indicted four times since late March and faces a total of 91 charges.

Trump faces state charges in New York and Georgia for his role in the Stormy Daniels hush-money case and attempt to overturn the 2020 election, respectively.

He also faces federal charges related overturning the election and Janurary 6 as well as mishandling clasified documents after leaving office.

Huckabee blamed Democratic President Joe Biden for the mess.

‘And if you’re not paying attention, you may not realize that Joe Biden is using exactly those tactics to make sure that Donald Trump is not his opponent in 2024,’ he said.

‘Here’s the problem – if these tactics end up working to keep Trump from winning or even running in 2024 it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets,’ the former governor said.

Huckabee’s civil war talk got quickly picked up by Right Wing Watch, which monitors rhetoric on the political right.

‘In a healthy democratic system, it would be shocking for a major political leader to make such a threat. But apocalyptic rhetoric and threats of violence and civil war have become increasingly common among right-wing leaders and far-right activists,’ wrote Right Wing Watch’s Peter Montgomery.

The political reality for Biden is that he might actually prefer to go up against Trump in the general election as opposed to other Republican hopefuls.

In a new CNN/SSRS poll, Biden trails Trump 46 to 47 percent, while former Amb. Nikki Haley, who is getting attention after her strong first GOP debate appearance, leads Biden 49 to 43 percent.
