Heckenberg crash: Johnson Kokozian denied bail after collision killed woman and her brother in Sydney’s southwest

A young father has been denied bail over an alleged high-speed crash, which claimed the life of a brother and sister.

Alina Kauffman, 24, and her brother, Ernesto Salazer, 15, died when an allegedly stolen Mercedes crossed to the wrong side of the road to collide with their Toyota Echo in Heckenberg, in Sydney‘s southwest, at 9.20pm on Friday.

Johnson Kokozian, 20, allegedly told police that he was the front seat passenger in the Mercedes registered to his father.

Parramatta Bail Court heard on Sunday that numerous witnesses alleged Kokozian as the driver.

After hitting the Toyota the Mercedes skidded into a stationary Toyota RAV4 before being flipped on its side.

Johnson Kokozian, 20, allegedly told police that he was the front seat passenger in the Mercedes registered to his father

The two RAV4 occupants of the RAV4  were unhurt.

It is alleged Mr Kokozian and two other people climbed out of the wrecked Mercedes and got into another car to drive off after making no attempt to help the siblings who were fatally wounded in the Echo.

Magistrate Rob Rabbidge said he was satisfied Kokozian was the Mercedes driver in what he called an ‘appalling situation’ as he refused bail, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The court heard police had visited Kokozian father’s house following the crash to alert him about it.

The court heard the man allegedly claimed the car had been stolen.

Kokozian, who has a son, was supported by his girlfriend and father in court.

Angelina Kauffman, the mother of Alina and Ernesto, said her beautiful two kids ‘did not deserve to die’.

She said Alina had just picked up Ernesto from his new job at a Kmart only 200m from their family home

Alina called me and said “Mum, I picked up my brother, we are going to get some food and then we are coming home”,’ Angelina told the Daily Telegraph.

‘I said “are you OK?” and they said “yes mummy”.’
