At first glance you might not think that Britain’s Queen of WAGs and the Duchess of Edinburgh have much in common.
Coleen Rooney is married to footballing star and serial cheat Wayne while Sophie is wife to the youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth.
Their lives might be poles apart yet when it comes to their clothes, they could be fashion twins.
Here we look at the many times the footie princess and the popular duchess have shown near identical taste in outfits.

Coleen on International Women’s Day this month and Sophie at Chelsea Flower Show in 2022
Coleen celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) earlier this month by taking part in a Question and Answer sessions where she discussed her famous ‘Wagatha Christie’ battle with rival WAG, Rebekah Vardy (wife to Leicester City and England star, Jamie).
Coleen was dressed in an eye-catching pink trouser suit for the event, with sparkly silvery accessories.
Did Coleen and Becky use IWD to call a truce and patch up their differences?
Don’t be daft.
Sophie looked as fresh as a daisy when she visited the Chelsea Flower Show in 2022 dressed in chic pink linen.
It was a shade chosen to complement the pink coat worn by the late Queen Elizabeth that day.
Snazzy stripes
Coleen models a dress she designed for Littlewoods in 2014, and Sophie in stripes in 2018
Deep down Coleen is a Chanel and Versace girl but that didn’t stop her designing a bargain range for Littlewoods in 2014, where the line of clothes included this sleeveless dress that she modelled at a London photocall.
In June 2018 while on a public engagement in Stafford, Sophie, then Countess of Wessex, wore a jazzy asymmetrical striped dress.
If only she’d known that a shrunken, cut price version had been available at Littlewoods four years earlier!
Little black strapless dresses
Coleen in an LBD at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2005, and Sophie at a ball in 1999
Some might say that Coleen deserves a Pride of Britain award for sticking with Wayne.
In 2005, just a few months after her then fiance admitted visiting a brothel, Coleen attended the annual event in London wearing a strapless cocktail dress.
With Wayne on the naughty step, she took her mum Colette as her date.
Back in 1999, three months before her wedding to Prince Edward, Sophie Rhys Jones went to a spring ball at the Dorchester Hotel.
She dressed in a strapless, black velvet dress that looked as though it could have come straight from Coleen’s walk-in wardrobe – all she needed was one of the WAG’s holiday tans.
Daring in leather
Coleen in a black leather mini dress in 2019, and Sophie in a black leather midi dress in 2022
Just two days after her dramatic revelation on Twitter, when she publicly accused rival WAG Rebekah Vardy of selling stories about her, Coleen hit the town.
In October 2019 she went to the 40th birthday party thrown by former Manchester United player, Wes Brown, wearing a one-shouldered black leather mini dress and danced her troubles away at a Manchester nightclub.
Three years later, in November 2022, Sophie, who many believe has found her fashion feet in recent years, wore a stunning leather midi dress by Italian brand Loewe when she visited a centre for disabled children.
One session with the scissors is all it would take to turn the midi into a mini like Coleen’s, should she fancy it.
Neutral suits
Coleen in a taupe Zara suit in 2022, and Sophie after her engagement was announced in 1999
Rebekah Vardy sued Coleen for libel following her Wagatha Christie allegations but went on to lose the case.
Coleen certainly looked a winner in the ‘relatable’ taupe Zara suit she wore to court in May 2022. She teamed the outfit with a less relatable £4,000 Chanel handbag.
Sophie looked equally relatable and elegant back in 1999, the day after her engagement was announced. As a working PR girl, it was straight back to the office in a smart suit with a (non-Chanel) brown leather tote.
Fresh florals
Coleen at the Grand National in 2012, and Sophie in a £1,150 tea dress last year
Scouser Coleen rarely misses the Grand National.
In 2012 she wore a silk, flower print maxi dress teamed with five-inch Louboutins for the big day. Her horse didn’t come in but it’s a safe bet that she enjoyed a few glasses of bubbly in her private box.
Sophie, newly named as the Duchess of Edinburgh, displayed her love of swishy floral dresses last summer.
She chose a £1,150 tea dress by Suzannah London to wear to Westminster Abbey for a service marking 75 years of the National Health Service.
Tight and white
Coleen at the premiere of her Disney+ documentary, and Sophie in Florida in 2006
Coleen turned the Wagatha Christie scandal into a triumph when she landed her own documentary series for Disney+ off the back of it.
The WAG looked regal in white and tanned (when isn’t she?) when she wore a strapless bodice with matching skirt for a screening of Coleen Rooney: The real Wagatha story.
While attending a charity event in West Palm Beach in 2006, Sophie wore a daring white dress with a Bardot neckline.
Like Coleen’s, Sophie’s dress was flattering, figure-hugging and just the right side of sexy.
Looking good in lace
Coleen at Wimbledon in 2022, and Sophie at the Platinum Jubilee concert in the same year
Wayne and eldest son Kai joined Coleen at Wimbledon in 2022, when she wore a summery, white lace dress.
While her frock looked bright and fresh, her face looked bored and disinterested. Well, it’s not Aintree is it?
Did Coleen see Sophie at the Platinum Jubilee concert a few weeks earlier?
Taking her seat in the Royal Family’s box, Sophie was effortlessly cool and chic in a white lacy dress from Zara.
Jaunty jumpsuits
Coleen in black jumpsuit with diamante detail last Christmas, and Sophie in 2018
Not just a lady who likes to shop and go on holiday, Coleen is also a lady who likes to lunch.
She proved this last Christmas when she attended a lunch event organised by her regular party planner, Julie Perry, at Harvey Nichols in Manchester.
Coleen wore a black jumpsuit with diamante detail and looked simply sparkling.
Like Coleen, Sophie knows that a black jumpsuit can look just as glamorous and stylish as a dress, as she showed when she arrived at an NSPCC fundraising dinner in 2018.
And what’s this? She’s even sporting some Coleen-esque tan lines!
