Deborah Knight has opened up about the heartbreaking decision to put her pet cat down.
Writing in a column for 9Honey, the 2GB host said that her children were left ‘devastated’ after Barry was put down at age 18 this week.
‘It’s absolutely heartbreaking when we have to say goodbye,’ she wrote for Nine.

‘Barry was 18 years old, he wasn’t eating, and he was struggling physically to get around. He only had 3 legs, but that had never held him back – until now.’
Deborah said that the feline had been losing weight rapidly over the last month, and was clearly ‘suffering’.
‘Putting Barry to sleep was the last thing we wanted to do, but it was cruel to do anything else,’ she wrote.
‘Barry’s been part of our children’s lives, their entire lives. They’re understandably devastated – even though they know it was the right thing to do.’

Back in April, Deb spoke about her upcoming 50th birthday, detailing how she feels about getting older.
The Channel Nine presenter – who turns 50 in November – spoke about marking the milestone in an editorial for 9Honey.
‘The thought of being middle-aged was something my 18-year-old self could never fathom, and yet here I am, looking down the barrel of 50,’ she began.
Despite being confronted with getting older, Deb insisted she’s ‘not going to rush out and buy a red Porsche’.
‘I’m OK with the passing of time. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved with my family and career, and even though a niggly lower back is a reminder my body is starting to not be able to do what it used to, I’m healthy and happy to be getting older and hopefully wiser,’ she continued.

Although she’d ‘love to catch up with family and friends’, Deb said the thought of organising a birthday party ‘feels like a superhuman effort that will age me another 10 years rather than celebrate the past 50’.
She explained that she’s already so busy, and ‘the thought of adding a major party or getaway to the equation feels more exhausting than celebratory’.
‘I must admit, I am starting to take great pleasure in things I once only imagined a 50-year-old would enjoy,’ she added.
‘I bought a high-pressure cleaner three weeks ago and there is a hypnotic joy in blasting a concrete path to its original mould-free state.
‘I washed and vacuumed the car by hand last weekend, and gee it came up a treat.’
Deb added that she didn’t care if it sounded ‘boring’, she’s content living a ‘simpler life’ as she ages.
