Feist dazzles in new NPR Tiny Desk Concert

“The song part of Tiny Desk is easy; the talking part on the other hand,” Feist joked without finishing her sentence, setting herself up between songs during her brand new NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

Though Feist later proved that she’s actually totally fine with the banter part of the show, revealing a Bachelor-related tidbit about one of the songs in her set, it didn’t matter — the award-winning singer-songwriter gave a dazzling performance of four songs during her 20 minute session.

Along with Amir Yaghmai (violin, vocals, guitar), Todd Dahlhoff (bass, vocals), Andrew Barr (drums) and Rose Droll (keyboard, piano, vocals), Feist performed “In Lightning” and “Hiding Out in the Open” from her Polaris-shortlisted 2023 album, Multitudes, and “Caught a Long Wind” and “The Bad in Each Other” from 2011’s Polaris-winning album, Metals.

During the performance, Feist also revealed that she considers 2023’s “The Redwing” to be the “granddaughter” to her hit 2004 single “Mushaboom,” and considers 2023’s “In Lightning” to be the “granddaughter” to 2011’s “The Bad in Each Other.”

With this recording, Feist joins a big roster of Tiny Desk performers including Adele, Chaka Khan, Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa and Sean Paul, as well as fellow Canadians Nelly Furtado and Justin Bieber. NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts are recorded live at the desk of producer Bob Boilen, who founded the series in 2008 and who retired in 2023.
