Cousins and collaborators Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki have been nominated for the 2024 Doug Wright Award for their YA graphic novel Roaming.
Founded in 2005, the Doug Wright Awards have been awarded annually to celebrate the best in comics across Canada. They are named after influential Canadian cartoonist Doug Wright.
This year, 200 entries were submitted to be considered in four categories: best book, emerging talent, small or micro-press book and kids’ book.
Each winner will receive a small cash prize and the winner of the Nipper Award will receive a week-long stay at the Valleyview Artist Retreat.
Roaming is nominated for the Doug Wright Award for best book. It follows best friends Zoe and Dani on a trip to New York City during their first year of college. As a queer romance blossoms between Zoe and Dani’s classmate Fiona — who tags along — friendships get put to the test and all three girls learn more about who they are.
