Watch the 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist announcement at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sept. 6

Tune in at 9:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023 to find out which books will be vying for the $100,000 prize — the richest in Canadian literature. The $100,000 award annually recognizes the best in Canadian fiction.

This year the prize celebrates its 30th anniversary. The 2023 shortlist will be announced on Oct. 11, 2023 and the winner will be announced on Nov. 13, 2023.

The longlist announcement will be in St. John’s. The reveal will be hosted by author Suzette Mayr, who won the 2022 prize for her novel The Sleeping Car Porter.

Canadian poet and fiction writer Ian Williams is chairing the five-person jury this year. Joining him are Canadian authors Sharon Bala, Brian Thomas Isaac an international authors Rebecca Makkai and Neel Mukherjee.

Toronto businessman Jack Rabinovitch founded the prize in honour of his late wife, literary journalist Doris Giller, in 1994. Rabinovitch died in 2017 at the age of 87.
