Several models of Fisher-Price Snuga Swings are being recalled across Canada after manufacturer Mattel received reports of five suffocation deaths involving infants.
Health Canada said the swing is not supposed to be used for sleep and bedding materials should never be added to it.
“If the product is used for sleep or bedding material is added, the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation,” the agency said in a statement on Thursday.
The recall affects 12 models of the Fisher-Price Snuga Swing, 99,000 units of which were sold in Canada between 2012 and 2022.
The affected models and their corresponding model numbers are:

- My Little Snugabear Cradle ‘n Swing (CHM56)
- My Little Snugabear Ballerina Cradle ‘n Swing (CHM69)
- Moonlight Meadow Swing (CHM78)
- Sweet Snugapuppy Swing (DRG43)
- Fawn Meadows Deluxe Swing (GNG38)
- Peek-a-boo Fox Swing (GNG40)
- Dots & Spots Puppy Swing (GVF83)
- My Little Snugabunny Cradle ‘n Swing (V0099)
- My Little Sweetie Deluxe Cradle ‘n Swing (W9510)
- My Little SnugaMonkey Cradle ‘n Swing (X7051)
- My Little Snugapuppy Cradle ‘n Swing (X7345)
The model number can be found on the underside of the swing motor compartment.
Health Canada asks consumers to stop using those products immediately and to remove the headrest and body support insert from the seat pad.
More than two million such products were also sold in the United States, and 400 were sold in Mexico.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the reports of deaths involved infants aged one to three months when the product was used for sleep. It was not immediately clear where the deaths occurred.
The commission added that, in most of those deaths, the infants were unrestrained and bedding materials had been added to the units.
Consumers may contact Mattel to receive a partial refund for the headrest and body support insert, Health Canada said.
It is not the only recent recall for Mattel and Fisher-Price.
Earlier this year, the dumbbell toy from the Baby Biceps Gift Set and the Little People Mickey and Friends figure packs were recalled because they posed a choking hazard to infants.
